Field Trips Galore!

Hello Friends!

Before I share our weekly summary I wanted to let you know that we will not be in Community Circle tomorrow. We will be leaving WE at 8:15 to walk to the Dekalb History Center so we decided that it would be best to bring the children to the classroom to prepare to leave. We will be carrying our lunches with us so keep that in mind as you are packing your child's lunch.

Reading/SS: We've been working really hard to complete our biography projects and we just started working on designing a business! The children are learning about goods vs services and human, natural, and capital resources. They will also learn how to keep a budget with income and expenses as well as understand supply and demand, monopoly, opportunity cost and the art of advertising.

We played a resources game to build background...

Lola Schaefer visited and taught each grade about Persuasive Writing!

We had a BALL at F.AVE.  It started with a tour of the school with a 5th Grade Mentor and then we had lunch with the 4th graders!

Today we worked on line plot graphs using data from measuring various lengths of lines to the 1/2 and 1/4 inch.

Just one more week before Spring Break! I can't believe that Spring is here!

Another Marvelous Week at WE!

  Good Evening Friends,
We've been moving at full speed in room 212 this week. Thanks so much for your support with the Math Review book. It's proving to help sharpen our math skills as well as helping us to review all that we have learned.

In Math we will finish up fractions tomorrow and begin measurement and data next week. After that we will be working on test prep and constructed response word problems. We've also been singing a multiplication song everyday in order to help with fact memorization.

In ELA we finished learning about figurative language. (The children really enjoyed learning about puns)

In Social Studies we finished map skills and are moving into Economics.

In Science we are still working on heat.

In writing, we just completed a persuasive speech that I will record and send to you tomorrow! The children are hoping to persuade Ms. Lofstrand to allow them to have a Third Grade Soak at field day. They wrote the speech as a shared writing activity and it is really good! I think they can convince her!

In reading we are completing our Biography projects and will begin presenting them in class tomorrow. I will also record and send those to you. :) * Today we constructed a class made rubric to assess ourselves and one another. The students did a great job with it.

Here are some photos from the last week.

Hello Spring!

Hello Friends!
It's been a great week in room 212. We have been working on fractions, persuasive speeches, biography projects and map skills.
  * Ask your child to show you the Hudson, Rio Grande, Colorado, Mississippi and Ohio Rivers on a map. Tell them to introduce you to MIMAL! They can even tell you and show you where our 9 historical figures were born! If that doesn't impress you then ask them to explain how GPS uses lines of latitude and longitude coordinates to give us directions!

Here's what's happening in the next few weeks:

March 25th: Visit to FAVE
March 26th: James and the Giant Peach at the Alliance Theater
March 27th: Dekalb History Center Walking Field Trip
* We will need volunteers to chaperone and walk with us to the square. If you are interested, please email me and let me know so I can provide you with the info.

Here's a look at the week:
