FALL is in FULL Swing!

Hello!

Another week has passed and we've been working hard in Room 212. Here's what we've been up to.

In Reading we are learning how to make connections to the text we read, ask ourselves clarifying questions, and respond to literature using Kidblog. We've also been practicing the 1-1-1 Doubling Rule for spelling.
*When adding a vowel suffix such as -er  -ed- ing ask 3 questions:
Is is a one syllable word? Does it have one short vowel sound? Does it end in one final consonant? If yes then double the final consonant.
Here they are creating Avatars on Kidblog!

In Math we started our Multiplication and Division Unit. We made arrays to represent factors and products and used the Commutative Property to develop an understanding of the relationship b/t multiplication and addition.
****If you'd like to help your child learn his/her facts, I will be sending home some card games you can play and I am going to set up a MATH GAMES links page on the blog over the next few days. You can also use Compass Learning. your child knows his/her login and password.

In Science we are finishing up presenting our Google Slides Projects on GA Habitats and we will be kicking of our case study next week! :)

Lastly, if you are at Target over the weekend, please grab a package of SKINNY EXPO markers!                                                         We are using them up left & right! :)

Six Weeks ....Poof....

Hello Friends!

Tomorrow is our first official Community Circle and you're invited! We will begin at 8:00 or so and end at about 8:25. Our class is in charge of announcements and introductions. Please join us if you can!

We've been busy the last 4 days in room 212. We have completed our math unit and we've been playing lots of games. We have also been singing our Multiples song and I am impressed at how many children already know a big portion of the song!

We have also completed our Google Slides Jigsaw project and today we had a practice run for the presentations. The children have created dynamic slides following the criteria they suggested. We have learned about collaboration and the importance of communication as well as task timing. We've also learned a great deal about computer skills.

We chose reading partners for the year and our plan is to help one another reach our goals of becoming better, more well rounded readers.

THIS WEEK IN 212

Science:
You may have noticed that the students have been working in collaborative groups to create google slides for their Georgia Habitats jigsaw project! They will be teaching their habitat features to one another and I will post the slides on the blog as well.  I am also hoping to SKYPE with another 3rd grade classroom and share our work on the Georgia Habitats with them.
***I know the super nice Principal from GLOBE and I am hoping she will allow us to set up a class share***** :)

I have been watching the slide progress from home and I am enjoying the constructive critiques the children are sending to one another. I think they love the 'comment' feature of Google slides! I will use this as a tool frequently this year to promote the implementation of peer feedback and suggestions.

Reading:
We are continuing to "Build A Reading Life" by learning about self-assessment, setting new goals, and choosing reading partners. We will start Buddy Reading with Mrs. Wertz's Kindergarten class after the break. We have discussed the characteristics of a good reading partner in the classroom and drafted questions for reading interviews. Tomorrow the children will invite a friend to be their reading partner. Here are some photos of the interview process.

Math: We are finishing place value, rounding and decomposing numbers. Next week we will start MULTIPLICATION!! :)

Recess: Sand Volcanoes....

It's going to be an amazing year!! :)
