Term 3 Week 6!

Hello Everyone!
What a fun FRIDAY! The children were so excited about the snow. We experimented with changing states of matter by making slushies and all the while there was slushy weather forming outside!
We will be wrapping up Term 3 (see last week's post for details) and taking mini assessments next week. There will not be any study guides coming home. We will play some review games in class and test each other throughout this week and next.
ALSO: There is no homework other than daily reading and math fact practice this week due to MAP testing.

Calling All Chaperones!! January 9, 2018!
Email me if you would like to help out and attend!
The students will attend the orchestra on January 9, 2018, which is the week after we return from Holiday Break.  The show begins at 10:15, so we will leave the school about 9-9:15 to ensure that we arrive on time.  The show is 50 minutes long, so everyone should be boarding the buses to return to school by 11:00.  We should arrive back to school by 11:45. For this trip, each class may bring two chaperones. The cost of chaperones to attend is $12 each.

Term 3 Week 5...

Hello Everyone!
Happy Monday! We've got 13 days before our holiday break and lots to do! Here's the breakdown on the curriculum:

Math: We are finishing geometry terms and identifying types of angles. We are working on additive angles and symmetry this week. Ask your child to tell you all about how to find the measurement of angle x.

* Your child should be able to tell you the KNOWN information:
1.  There is a 90° right angle.
2. There is a 240° angle . It is an obtuse angle.
3. The total of measurement must be 360° (the measure of a circle).
4. The equation for this problem is  90° + 240° + x° = 360 °

Reading: We are reading myths and prose. Today we read  Demeter and Persephone  and discussed the plot and themes in the myth. We will also read Co-chin and the Spirits , & Pandora’s Box .
Students will also choose two myths to compare and contrast from THIS SITE

Writing: Students are writing an opinion piece about homework. They have formulated their opinion about whether or not 4th graders should have homework. They have read several articles on the topic and have learned how to choose facts to support their opinions.

Science: We completed weather instruments, types of weather and weather maps as well as the water cycle. This we are working on experiments to understand the states of matter, the difference between weather & climate and the types of clouds and how they are formed.

Social Studies: We finished learning about the timeline of the events leading up to the Revolutionary War (French & Indian War, Stamp Act, Sugar Act, Quartering Act, The Boston Massacre, The Boston Tea Party, Sons of Liberty)We will be learning about the writing of and reasons for the Declaration of Independence and the key battles (Lexington, Saratoga, Yorktown) and key figures (Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, Paul Revere, King George III, George Washington, Ben Franklin, Benedict Arnold,  the Black Regiments & Patrick Henry)
