About Me

  Dear Students, Parents, and Guardians,

Welcome to Fourth Grade @ F.Ave. I'm Beth Soons and I am extremely excited about the upcoming school year. I look forward to meeting each and every one of you! This year is going to be a wonderful adventure!

I am originally from West Newton, Pennsylvania, which is a quaint little town outside of Pittsburgh. I became a southerner right after college and I am proud to call Decatur, Georgia my home. My husband Ken and I have been married for 12 years and we have a 8 year old son named Cole  and 6 month old dog named Ziggy Stardust. I love to read design blogs, cook, travel, sew and practice yoga.

This school year marks my 17th year as an educator. I have spent most of my career working with second language learners both as a classroom teacher and as an ESOL team teacher. I spent the 2013-14 school year opening, GLOBE, which is a fantastic dual-language immersion charter school. My experiences at GLOBE provided me with the freedom and creativity to teach in a true constructivist manner. I'm coming to F.Ave after teaching 3rd grade at Westchester for the last 3 years.
I have a Master’s Degree in Reading Language and Literacy with Endorsements in ESOL, Reading and Gifted Education from Georgia State University. Last year I completed my Education Specialist Degree in Educational Technology at Kennesaw University. I have a tremendous love for education and a passion for teaching children. I believe that all children can learn, most especially when they are provided with the freedom to explore and the confidence to try.
